Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says he has no interest in returning to office amid the lingering political crisis in the state.

Speaking at a service of songs for late elder statesman, Edwin Clark, in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Fubara declared that he had emotionally detached from his former role.

“Can’t you see how better I look? Do you think I am interested in it? My spirit has already left that place long ago,” he said in a viral video from the event.

He added, “I want everybody to focus, there are some fights you don’t fight.”

The crisis in Rivers State stems from a prolonged power tussle between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In December 2023, President Bola Tinubu brokered a peace deal between both parties.

But on March 18, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state and suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all state lawmakers.

A retired naval officer, Ibok-Ete Ibas, was appointed as the sole administrator, effectively dissolving the existing government and placing the oil-rich state under federal control.
