The New York State Catholic Conference has criticised U.S. President Donald Trump for posting an AI-generated image of himself dressed as the Pope.

KoikiMedia reports that Trump shared the controversial image on his Truth Social account on Saturday.

The post, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage among Christians—particularly Catholicswho accused Trump of being insensitive and disrespectful.

Reacting on its official X handle, the Catholic Conference condemned the image, especially in light of the recent burial of Pope Francis and the Church’s preparation to elect a new pontiff.

“There is nothing clever or funny about this image, Mr. President.

“We just buried our beloved Pope Francis and the cardinals are about to enter a solemn conclave to elect a new successor of St. Peter. Do not mock us,” the statement read.
