30 Feared Dead As Gunmen Invade Kaduna Community, Set Homes Ablaze

At least 30 people have been killed after suspected gunmen attacked Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in the latest wave of violence to hit Southern Kaduna.

According to SaharaReporters, the assailants reportedly stormed the community on Sunday night, killing scores of residents, including women and children, and setting several houses on fire before fleeing the area.

Community sources, Ibrahim John and Mallam Katuka, confirmed the attack, saying no fewer than 30 bodies had been recovered from the village, while search efforts were still ongoing.

Residents expressed fears that the death toll could increase as more victims might still be trapped in the ruins of burnt buildings or yet to be accounted for.

Images from the community showed widespread destruction, with many homes completely razed during the attack.

The number of those injured or displaced has yet to be officially confirmed, as authorities continue to assess the impact of the incident.

The attack has further raised concerns over the worsening security situation in Kauru Local Government Area and other communities across Southern Kaduna, where repeated attacks and kidnappings have continued despite calls for stronger security measures.

Residents and community leaders appealed to the Kaduna State Government, the Federal Government and security agencies to deploy more personnel to the area and take decisive action to protect vulnerable communities from further attacks.

The incident comes just days after reports that at least eight hostages abducted from Ariko and Awon villages in Kachia Local Government Area died while in captivity.

According to journalist and former Kaduna State Government spokesperson, Reuben Buhari, seven of the deceased were among those kidnapped from Ariko village, while the eighth victim was a newborn delivered by a woman abducted from neighbouring Awon village.

The victims reportedly died after spending more than three months in captivity under harsh conditions, highlighting the persistent security challenges confronting communities across Southern Kaduna.
