Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has dismissed allegations that he is secretly supporting politicians who left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the 2027 general elections on the platforms of opposition parties.

The governor made it clear that he has no involvement in any anti-party activities and declared that such actions would not be tolerated within the APC in Ondo State.

Aiyedatiwa was speaking on Monday during an APC stakeholders’ meeting with local government and ward chairmen in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He said some individuals had been spreading rumours that he was encouraging former APC members and other candidates to contest against the party.

The governor described the allegations as completely false, insisting that he had never instructed or encouraged any candidate to contest an election under another political party.

“Some people are spreading falsehoods against me. I did not ask any candidate to contest in any other party; it is all lies,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He described those behind the allegations as “naysayers, blackmailers and slanderers,” while reiterating his commitment to the APC.

“I have zero tolerance for anti-party activities. I have never engaged in anti-party activities in my life.

So, no to anti-party activities. Let’s support Mr President and all the candidates of our party,” he added.

The governor urged the APC’s 18 local government chairmen and 203 ward chairmen to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots and work towards securing victory for the party in the 2027 elections.

According to him, ward chairmen occupy a crucial position in the party’s electoral structure because elections are ultimately decided at polling units located within the wards.

“Elections are won at the polling units, and the polling units are right there in the wards, and you are the ward chairmen. Very, very important.

You are occupying a significant role in the party structure,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa also instructed ward chairmen and secretaries to organise regular meetings involving party leaders and members in their respective wards.

He said such meetings should focus primarily on mobilisation, strengthening the party’s grassroots structure and preparing for the forthcoming elections.

However, he warned party officials against using such meetings or activities as platforms for promoting anti-party interests.

In his welcome address, the Ondo State APC Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, appealed to party members and officials to remain loyal to Governor Aiyedatiwa and the APC.

Kolawole said loyalty to the governor, who is the leader of the party in the state, was necessary to maintain unity and ensure electoral success.

He also urged the local government and ward chairmen to fully support all APC candidates, noting that the governor had directed the party to work towards achieving complete support for its candidates.

The state APC chairman commended Aiyedatiwa for approving regular ward meetings aimed at strengthening the party at the grassroots.

He also praised the governor for increasing the allowances of ward and local government chairmen by 100 per cent, adding that the allowances of state party executives had also been increased.
