I presented the President of the United States with the medal of the Nobel Peace Prize,” Machado said after the meeting, describing it as a tribute to Trump’s “unique commitment with our freedom

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado on Thursday presented her Nobel Peace Prize medal to US President Donald Trump during a White House meeting, calling the gesture a recognition of Trump’s commitment to Venezuela’s freedom.
“I presented the President of the United States with the medal of the Nobel Peace Prize,” Machado said after the meeting, describing it as a tribute to Trump’s “unique commitment with our freedom.”
Speaking to supporters outside the White House, she added in Spanish, “We can count on President Trump,” according to reports.
Trump thanked Machado on social media, calling the gesture “a wonderful display of mutual respect.”
The Norwegian Nobel Committee, however, has clarified that Nobel Peace Prizes cannot be transferred or shared, and the laureate title remains solely with Machado.
The meeting comes weeks after US forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in Caracas on drug‑trafficking charges.
Despite the symbolic presentation, Trump did not endorse Machado, who claimed victory in Venezuela’s contested 2024 election, instead engaging with Delcy Rodríguez, Maduro’s former vice‑president and now acting head of state.
Since Maduro’s capture, the US has moved quickly to reshape Venezuela’s oil sector, completing its first sale valued at $500 million.
