Soyinka made the announcement on Tuesday at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery, Freedom Park, Lagos Island, expressing surprise at the decision

The United States under President Donald Trump has revoked the visa of globally acclaimed scholar and Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.

Soyinka made the announcement on Tuesday at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery, Freedom Park, Lagos Island, expressing surprise at the decision.

He said he was unaware of any actions that could have led to the revocation. “It is necessary for me to hold this conference so that people in the United States who are expecting me for events do not waste their time,” he stated.

“I have no visa; I am banned from the United States. And if you want to see me, you know where to find me,” Soyinka added.

He revealed that the US Consulate informed him of the decision through a letter. “I’m still reviewing my history… I have no criminal record, felony, or misdemeanour that could justify this revocation,” he said.

Soyinka further reflected, “I’ve started looking back—have I ever misbehaved toward the United States? Do I have a history of breaking the law anywhere?”
