The United States has carried out another round of air strikes on Iran, marking the eighth consecutive night of military action, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
The US military said the strikes were intended to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and were also in response to an Iranian missile and drone attack on a US base in Jordan that killed two American service members and injured several others.
Iranian media reported that areas near Sirik in Hormozgan Province, Qeshm Island, and a location near Shadegan in Khuzestan Province were targeted early Sunday. Iranian authorities said there were no casualties and that residential or commercial infrastructure was not damaged.
CENTCOM said the operation targeted Iranian coastal surveillance systems, air defence facilities, maritime assets, and missile and drone storage sites.
Meanwhile, Iran claimed it launched retaliatory attacks against US military assets at two bases in Kuwait. Iranian military officials said the strikes targeted an ammunition depot at Al-Adiri Camp and radar installations at Ali Al Salem Air Base.
The latest escalation comes amid growing tensions in the region. Iran’s Supreme Leader warned that continued US attacks would have serious consequences, while residents across the country have expressed concern about the ongoing conflict and uncertainty over whether a diplomatic solution can still be reached.
