Takaichi met her Vietnamese counterpart, Le Minh Hung, in Hanoi on Saturday, where the two countries signed six agreements covering areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, and space cooperation.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Takaichi said both sides had identified economic security as a new priority for bilateral cooperation.
She added that Japan and Vietnam agreed to work more closely on critical minerals to ensure stable supplies and strengthen supply chains.
Hung said the leaders also reaffirmed the importance of resolving disputes in the South China Sea peacefully and in line with international law.
Both countries share concerns over China’s territorial claims in the East and South China Seas, and are seeking to expand economic and security ties to reduce the impact of trade disruptions linked to the United States.
