El-Rufai had, on Sunday, shared a letter dated January 30, 2026, addressed to the National Security Adviser (NSA), seeking “clarification and reassurance” over reports that the NSA planned to import thallium sulphate from abroad.

The Presidency has dismissed claims by former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, that the government procured a toxic chemical substance.

El-Rufai had, on Sunday, shared a letter dated January 30, 2026, addressed to the National Security Adviser (NSA), seeking “clarification and reassurance” over reports that the NSA planned to import thallium sulphate from abroad.

Reacting, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said there was no government procurement or importation of thallium sulphate through the NSA’s office.

Ajayi urged El-Rufai to release the reply he allegedly received from the NSA, just as he had publicly released his own letter.

Ajayi accused El-Rufai of playing political games to create tension, spread misinformation, and divert attention from corruption allegations in Kaduna State.

He noted that El-Rufai had lost support across the state, including from the governor, critical stakeholders, and the entire Kaduna State House of Assembly, which petitioned the ICPC and EFCC to probe him over N432bn corruption allegations.

“The former governor should focus on addressing his domestic problems and stop using national issues to shield himself,” the statement concluded.
