Abuja / Kwara State — A former presidential candidate, Princess Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has issued an urgent open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning of an alleged planned terrorist attack targeting several communities in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In the letter addressed to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Adesanya-Davies expressed deep concern over what she described as credible security threats facing Ira, Inaja, Aho, and surrounding settlements, calling for immediate federal intervention to prevent potential loss of lives.

Warning Issued Over Emerging Security Threat

The former presidential candidate, who identified herself as an indigene of Ira town, said the letter was written out of patriotic duty and not for political gain or public panic. According to her, alarming reports emerged after a threatening message allegedly dropped in the Ira market area by unknown individuals created widespread fear among residents.

She stated that the discovery of the letter has unsettled daily activities within the community, with traders, farmers, and families reportedly living in anxiety amid fears of an imminent attack.

“The intention is not to create panic but to prevent bloodshed and ensure urgent preventive action,” she noted.

Alleged Terror Message Sparks Fear

Adesanya-Davies revealed that the authors of the threat letter allegedly identified themselves as “NTA – Nigeria Terrorist Association,” claiming they had moved from the Kaiama axis into Oyun Local Government Area with plans to attack multiple communities.

The locations allegedly mentioned include:

  • Ira town
  • Inaja community
  • Aho village
  • Other neighbouring settlements

She stressed that whether the message is genuine or an attempt to destabilise the region, authorities must treat it with utmost seriousness, noting that several past attacks across Nigeria were initially dismissed as rumours before turning into tragedies.

Strategic Importance of Ira Corridor

The letter described Ira as a strategic border town linking several communities and farmlands, warning that insecurity within the corridor could expose Kwara State to broader security risks.

According to her, the region’s geographical position makes it vulnerable to infiltration, and any successful attack could lead to displacement, economic disruption, and potential social or religious tensions in a state historically known as peaceful and harmonious.

“Kwara must not become another frontline of terror,” she cautioned.

Commendation and Call for Reinforcement of Security Forces

While commending the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Ilemona for ongoing patrol operations and community security support, Adesanya-Davies argued that the facility cannot manage expanding threats alone.

She called for reinforcement through:

  • Deployment of additional personnel
  • Intelligence coordination
  • Surveillance technology and drones
  • Improved logistics and communication equipment

Appeal for Immediate Federal Action

In her appeal to President Tinubu, the former presidential candidate outlined several urgent recommendations, including:

  • Deployment of rapid-response security teams to affected communities
  • Intelligence investigations by the DSS, military intelligence, and police units
  • Verification and tracing of the alleged threat letter’s origin
  • Forest and border security sweeps to prevent hidden camps or ambush points
  • Strengthening civilian protection through community alert systems and increased security presence at markets and schools

She also urged stronger collaboration between the Federal Government, Kwara State Government, and international security partners to address potential threats proactively.

Call Against Normalising Terror

Adesanya-Davies warned that one of the greatest dangers facing any nation is becoming accustomed to insecurity, stressing that early warnings must never be ignored.

“The people of Ira, Inaja, Aho and surrounding communities are Nigerians whose safety remains the responsibility of the state,” she stated.

Reference to Recent Security Concerns

In a special addendum, she referenced a recent violent incident reportedly preceded by similar warning signs, which allegedly resulted in significant loss of lives, arguing that residents can no longer dismiss such alerts as mere rumours.

She therefore urged swift and visible action from federal authorities to prevent what she described as a “preventable tragedy.”

Copies Sent to Security Leadership

The open letter was also copied to key national security institutions, including:

  • Department of State Services (DSS)
  • Inspector General of Police (IGP)
  • Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)
  • National Security Adviser (NSA)
  • Governor of Kwara State
  • President of the Senate

Adesanya-Davies concluded her appeal with prayers for peace and protection for Ira community, Kwara State, and Nigeria as a whole.
