A 20-year-old Computer Engineering student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), Audi Emmanuel, has been found dead in his apartment in Emure-Ile, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, with police suspecting suicide.
The incident occurred along Awolowo Road, where neighbours reportedly became alarmed after perceiving a strong odour coming from the student’s room.
Residents were said to have forced the door open after several failed attempts to reach him, leading to the discovery of his lifeless body inside the apartment.
A neighbour disclosed that the development threw the area into shock, noting that the police were immediately alerted.
He added that no suicide note was found at the scene.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said officers swiftly responded to the report.
He said, “The Ondo State Police Command confirms the report of a suspected suicide incident at Emure-Ile involving a 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, who was found dead in his residence.
“Police operatives promptly visited the scene, where the body was recovered and deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Preliminary observations suggest a case of suicide; however, a thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Jimoh further stated that the command sympathises with the bereaved family and encouraged members of the public to seek help during periods of emotional distress.
He said, “The Command commiserates with the family of the deceased and urges members of the public to seek support and speak up during moments of emotional distress, as help is always available.”
