Fayose made the comments on Friday during an interview with Channels Television, responding to the escalating conflict between Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that only fasting and prayers can prevent the impeachment of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Fayose made the comments on Friday during an interview with Channels Television, responding to the escalating conflict between Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly.
On Thursday that the House had begun impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over alleged “gross misconduct.”
House Speaker Martins Amaewhule accused the governor and his deputy of undermining democracy and faulted Fubara for allegedly failing to present the state budget as mandated by law.
Enemi George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions, and Complaints, confirmed that notices of gross misconduct had been served to both the governor and his deputy.
In his interview, Fayose advised Fubara to reconcile with former Rivers Governor and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. He also criticised the governor for appointing cabinet members and spending public funds without legislative approval.
“I’m not a prophet, so many prayers would be needed to save Fubara. Fasting and prayers are the only things that can rescue him,” Fayose said. “My prayer is that God will guide his mind and that the president will help calm the situation.”
Fayose expressed shock at the political dispute between Fubara and Wike. “I never imagined this would happen between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Nyesom Wike,” he said.
Reflecting on Fubara’s inauguration, Fayose added, “I was seated at the high table the day Governor Fubara was sworn in, and I told Wike I wanted to give Fubara some advice not to betray him. Wike replied that I shouldn’t, that Fubara could not do it.”
Fayose, who first became Ekiti governor in 2003, was impeached in 2006 over alleged mismanagement of state funds. However, the Supreme Court nullified the impeachment in 2014. He later returned to office that year after defeating the incumbent, Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and served until 2018.
