Obidient Movement Alleges EFCC Targets Peter Obi Supporters Over Naira Abuse Probe

The Obidient Movement has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of targeting supporters of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following the interrogation of two of its members over alleged naira abuse.

The two members, Peter Akah and Oruche Precious, were released by the EFCC on Thursday after several hours of questioning over the allegations.

According to the movement, the duo have been asked to return for further interrogation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group condemned what it described as the EFCC’s invitation, prolonged interrogation and alleged harassment of its members.

The movement claimed the investigation was politically motivated, alleging that the anti-graft agency had failed to address what it described as widespread corruption and economic sabotage involving individuals in government.

It alleged that the commission, under its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, was focusing on supporters of Peter Obi instead of pursuing high-profile corruption cases.

The group also claimed that politicians facing corruption allegations often evade scrutiny by joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It cited allegations involving Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; and former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, urging the EFCC to prioritise such investigations.

The movement further alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s children had not been investigated despite claims that they own expensive properties abroad.

It maintained that it would continue to support the two activists and called on the EFCC to end what it described as a politically motivated investigation.

The group insisted that if the commission was genuinely committed to fighting corruption, it should focus on investigating members of the ruling party rather than targeting political opponents.

The EFCC has yet to respond to the allegations.
