Obi, alongside former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, had on Sunday defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC ahead of the next general elections.

The South West Coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, Dr Adefolaseye Adebayo, has claimed that about 10 million Nigerians registered with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) within 24 hours of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, joining the party.

Obi, alongside former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, had on Sunday defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC ahead of the next general elections.

The move has continued to generate mixed reactions, with some critics arguing that Obi’s chances of winning the presidency have weakened following the defection.

However, Adebayo, speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, dismissed the claim, insisting that Obi retains strong support across all six geopolitical zones of the country.

She maintained that his appeal is driven by his personality and competence rather than party affiliation.

“Mr Peter Obi has a lot of followership across Nigeria. You can’t say that Obi’s chances or the chance of the South East has reduced drastically,” she said.

“Twenty-four hours after Peter Obi left ADC, 10 million Nigerians registered with NDC, and that says a lot.”
