NANS President Akinteye Babatunde said the association is mobilising students nationwide, describing the continued captivity of the victims as “heartbreaking and unacceptable.”

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to stage a solidarity protest on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Oyo State over the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
NANS President Akinteye Babatunde said the association is mobilising students nationwide, describing the continued captivity of the victims as “heartbreaking and unacceptable.”
He stressed that students can no longer remain silent while abducted pupils and teachers remain in captivity.
The protest will include visits to affected schools in Ahoro-Esiele, as well as meetings with the Oyo State Police Command and the Department of State Services before a peaceful march in Ibadan.
Gunmen had earlier attacked Community High School and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, abducting 39 students and seven teachers, while one teacher was killed and a toddler was also taken.
NANS says the protest is aimed at demanding urgent action from security agencies to secure the release of the victims.
