Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to Bear Tinubu’s Name, FG Announces

The Federal Government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway, citing the President’s long-standing vision for the project.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision during a media briefing in Abuja.

He explained that the Ministry of Works chose to honour Tinubu because he first conceived the idea of the coastal road more than 27 years ago while serving as Governor of Lagos State.

Umahi described the project as a major infrastructure achievement, noting that the first section of the 750-kilometre highway stretches from Victoria Island to Lekki.

The six-lane road includes a central corridor reserved for a future railway line.

The minister also revealed that President Tinubu has approved a 400-kilometre extension of the Fourth Legacy Highway, increasing its total length to about 1,100 kilometres.

The expanded route will now extend into Taraba State in addition to connecting several northern states.

Furthermore, the President approved the dualisation of sections of the East-West Road, the reconstruction of parts of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with reinforced concrete pavement, the completion of the long-abandoned Ibi Bridge in Taraba State, and the construction of the 5.76-kilometre Lao Bridge.

According to Umahi, these projects are part of the Federal Government’s broader plan to improve transportation, boost economic growth, and strengthen connectivity across Nigeria.
