Israel’s military has launched another deadly attack in northern Gaza, despite announcing the resumption of a fragile ceasefire.
The latest aerial attack occurred on Wednesday evening in Gaza’s Beit Lahiya area, killing at least two people, according to al-Shifa Hospital. Israel claims it targeted a site storing weapons that posed an “immediate threat” to its troops.
The recent attack has added more uncertainty to Gaza’s fragile ceasefire, which was already shaken by the most intense Israeli bombardment on Tuesday night since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10.
The situation remains tense, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violating the agreement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered retaliatory strikes on Gaza after an Israeli soldier was reportedly killed in southern Gaza’s Rafah on Tuesday. The strikes resulted in the deaths of 104 people, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Israel claimed its strikes targeted senior Hamas fighters, killing dozens, and later said it would resume observing the ceasefire mid-Wednesday.
Despite the attacks, United States President Donald Trump insisted the ceasefire “is not in jeopardy”.
However, regional mediator Qatar expressed frustration over the violence, stating that mediators are still looking towards the next phase of the truce, including the disarmament of Hamas.
