Israeli forces carried out an airstrike on a vehicle near Lebanon’s border with Syria, killing at least four people, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said.

In a statement, the ministry said the strike occurred early Monday morning. Lebanon’s National News Agency identified one of the victims as a Syrian national, Khaled Mohammad al-Ahmad.

The Israeli military confirmed the attack, stating in a post on X that it targeted members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Lebanon, though it provided no evidence to support the claim.

The military said the strike took place in the Majdal Anjar area.
There was no immediate response from PIJ.

PIJ is an armed group operating in the occupied Palestinian territories and has been fighting alongside Hamas in Gaza in pursuit of a Palestinian state.

It is also allied with the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, which began launching attacks on northern Israel in solidarity with Palestinians following the outbreak of Israel’s war on Gaza in 2023.

Although Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024, the Israeli military has continued to carry out near-daily strikes in Lebanon, despite the US-brokered truce.

According to the United Nations, Israel has launched more than 10,000 air and ground attacks in the year since the ceasefire agreement.

The UN human rights office reported in November that it had verified at least 108 civilian casualties from Israeli attacks since the truce took effect, including 21 women and 16 children. It also said that at least 11 Lebanese civilians were abducted by Israeli forces during the same period.

Last month, Lebanon submitted a complaint to the UN, accusing Israel of repeated violations and urging the UN Security Council to pressure Israel to halt its attacks and fully withdraw from Lebanese territory.

The complaint stated that Israel breached Lebanon’s sovereignty at least 2,036 times in the final three months of 2025 alone.

Israel also continues to occupy five areas within Lebanon, hindering the reconstruction of border villages destroyed in the fighting and preventing tens of thousands of displaced residents from returning home.
