Fighting has continued across Gaza Strip even after a truce brokered by the United States entered its second phase last month, with Israel and Hamas accusing each other of breaching the agreement

Gaza’s civil defence authorities said Israeli airstrikes killed at least five people on Friday, as violence persisted in the Palestinian enclave despite an ongoing ceasefire.

Fighting has continued across Gaza Strip even after a truce brokered by the United States entered its second phase last month, with Israel and Hamas accusing each other of breaching the agreement.

The civil defence agency which functions as a rescue service under Hamas-run authorities told Agence France-Presse that an early-morning airstrike on Friday killed at least two people and seriously wounded another in central Gaza.

According to the agency, a separate drone strike in southern Gaza shortly after midnight left three people dead and several others injured.

Under the ceasefire terms, which took effect on October 10, Israeli forces withdrew to positions behind a designated “Yellow Line,” although they continue to control more than half of the territory.

Gaza’s health ministry, also overseen by Hamas authorities, has previously reported that at least 601 people have been killed since the truce began, while the Israeli military says four of its soldiers have died during the same period.

Strict media restrictions and limited access to the enclave have prevented AFP from independently verifying casualty figures or reporting freely from the ground.
