Former Aviation Minister Stella Oduah and her co-defendants have started returning part of the N2.5 billion allegedly misappropriated during her tenure.
At the resumed hearing before Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, the prosecution told the court that some of the disputed funds have already been refunded to government coffers.
Oduah, alongside co-defendant Gloria Odita and others, faces charges over contracts awarded while she was Aviation Minister, which prosecutors say were part of the alleged fraud.
The exact amount returned has not been disclosed, but the prosecution described the refund as a positive step toward restoring the funds to the Federal Government.
Stella Oduah, 65, served as Aviation Minister from July 2011 to February 2014 and later represented Anambra North Senatorial District as a Senator.
She also held the position of Director of Administration and Finance during President Goodluck Jonathan’s political campaign.
The trial continues at the FCT High Court, with further proceedings expected as the prosecution presents its evidence.
