Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that his hit song “With You,” featuring Omah Lay, almost didn’t make it onto his 5IVE album.
In an interview with OkayAfrica shared by HYPETRIBE on Monday, Davido said the track wasn’t initially a favourite during internal listening sessions.
“Crazy thing is, that song almost didn’t make the album. With You wasn’t in anyone’s top five,” he said.
The song’s success has made Davido reflect on how close it came to being left out. “Every time I perform it, my heart races thinking, what if I hadn’t included this song?” he added.
Davido also shared how he found out about his latest Grammy nomination, recalling that it happened unexpectedly while he was in Dubai just before his birthday. “I was checking out a car in the car when my phone rang. They said, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he said.
Since its release, “With You” has become one of Davido’s most successful tracks, topping charts and reaching over 100 million streams on Spotify. Despite the nomination, Nigeria didn’t win a Grammy this year, with South African artist Tyla taking home Best African Music Performance.
Looking forward, Davido said he is focusing on new music and live performances, including a confirmed slot at Coachella 2026. He will be the only Nigerian performer at the festival, playing on both Saturdays, April 11 and April 18, in Indio, California.
“Touring, new music, Coachella—big plans ahead,” he said.
