Nigeria – Osun: Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has extended the curfew in the crisis-hit communities of Ifon and Ilobu to 6 PM to 6 AM daily, following a resurgence of violence between the warring groups.

The decision, announced on Friday, aims to curb the renewed clashes and restore peace in the embattled areas.

Adeleke had previously imposed a 10 PM to 4 AM curfew, but the recent escalation prompted stricter measures.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the governor expressed dissatisfaction with the fresh violence and directed security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to maintain 24-hour surveillance.

“The Governor has directed that the initial 10 PM to 4 AM curfew now be extended to 6 PM to 6 AM, effective today, Friday, 21st March 2025, until further notice,” the statement read.

“He has also ordered nonstop security patrols to prevent further breakdown of law and order.”

As part of efforts to find a lasting resolution, Adeleke has summoned a stakeholders’ meeting for Saturday, 22nd March 2025.

The Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, and other key figures from both communities are expected to attend.

The governor urged residents and traditional rulers to embrace peace, warning that anyone found instigating violence would face the full wrath of the law.
