Bandits

One Nigerian soldier was reportedly killed while four others escaped an ambush by terrorists in the Dansadau axis of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The troops from Sector 1 were reportedly ambushed while on patrol and escort duty along Dansadau-Yar Galadima road.

A villager, Muhammad Isah, said the ambush was staged at Mashayar Zaki area as the troops were escorting soldiers going on leave and civilian vehicles moving to a local market.

The source said that the military operatives were surrounded by terrorists – locally dubbed as bandits in the country as bullets were flowing from all angles.

He said the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun duel.

“But we were not sure about how many bandits were neutralized in the gun battle,” Daily Post quoted Isah as saying.

According to the news outlet, the Dansadau axis of the north-western state was under the control of bandits, a development which forced the Federal Government to establish a military settlement in Dansadau town.

With the establishment of the Army settlement in Dansadau, the terrorists moved to other parts of Zamfara, leading to escalation of banditry in the state.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has not issued any statement on the reported ambush as of the time of filing this report.

Also, all efforts to contact the state police command’s spokesman, ASP Yazeed Abubakar, proved futile as his numbers were not reachable.
