The police assume that the suspect targeted vulnerable girls and young women and suspect that there are more victims
Agency Report
Amsterdam ‐ The police have arrested a 20-year-old man from Amsterdam for seven separate investigations into the rape, sexual assault, and extortion of girls and young women.
“Given the method used in the multiple cases, the police suspect that there are more victims who may not have dared to come forward,” the police said.
The seven cases the police know about happened between July 2021 and April 2024. In all seven cases, the young man approached the victims in public. They did not know him beforehand. He said he’d like to go on a date with them and chose the location for them to meet.
During the “dates,” the man then forced the girls and young women to perform or undergo sexual acts against their will. He also pressured some of the victims to give or transfer him money.
“The police assume that the suspect targeted vulnerable girls and young women and suspect that there are more victims,” the police said. Investigators urged victims to come forward.
The police arrested the 20-year-old man on July 22. He was arraigned on July 25 and remanded back into custody. On Monday, August 5, the magistrate extended his pretrial detention by another 30 days.
