Romania and NATO allies have condemned Russia after a drone crashed into an apartment building in eastern Romania, injuring two people during an overnight attack on Ukraine.

Romanian officials said the drone entered Romanian airspace before hitting the city of Galati, causing a fire and forcing evacuations. Two F-16 jets and a helicopter were deployed in response.

Bucharest called the incident a serious breach of international law and summoned the Russian ambassador, while announcing plans to strengthen its anti-drone defences.

NATO and EU leaders also criticised Russia, warning the strike highlights growing risks of the war spilling beyond Ukraine’s borders.

The United Nations urged de-escalation and a ceasefire amid rising tensions.
