Hamas condemned what it described as Israel’s “treacherous and cowardly assassination” of al-Haddad, who headed the Qassam Brigades

Hamas has confirmed that Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the commander of its armed wing in Gaza, was killed in an Israeli strike a day earlier.
In a statement on Saturday, Hamas condemned what it described as Israel’s “treacherous and cowardly assassination” of al-Haddad, who headed the Qassam Brigades.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz announced on Friday that Israeli forces had targeted and killed al-Haddad, describing him as “one of the architects” of the October 7, 2023 attacks.
According to Hamas, al-Haddad was killed alongside his wife, daughter, and several Palestinian civilians on Friday evening.
The strikes hit the Remal neighbourhood west of Gaza City.
Medical sources said three Palestinians were killed in a strike on a civilian vehicle, while four others died after a building was hit.
Sources told Media that the victims included three women and a baby, while dozens more were injured.
Eyewitnesses said the attack that killed al-Haddad caused widespread panic, with many Palestinians fleeing as a massive fire engulfed the residential building.
