NATO spokesperson Allison Hart said the alliance is “working with the US to understand the details of its decision on force posture in Germany.

NATO says it is reviewing the details of the United States’ decision to withdraw about 5,000 troops from Germany, a key member of the Western security alliance, amid rising tensions over the war involving Iran.
In a statement on Saturday, NATO spokesperson Allison Hart said the alliance is “working with the US to understand the details of its decision on force posture in Germany.”
The US Pentagon estimates the process will take between six and 12 months.
The planned withdrawal comes as US President Donald Trump clashes with European allies over what he sees as insufficient support for the US-Israel war involving Iran.
He has been particularly critical of Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who recently said the United States was being “humiliated” by Iran’s leadership.
Trump responded by telling Merz to stop “interfering” in matters related to Iran and focus on “fixing his broken country.” He has also described NATO as a “paper tiger” and “absolutely useless.”
