A statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power following the resignation of Mr Adebayo Adelabu, who left the position to pursue elective office.
A statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.
Tegbe, who hails from Oyo State, is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors.
Until his nomination, he served as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinated bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and China in line with the objectives of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
He previously held the position of Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led key initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He also advised governments and private sector organisations on regulatory frameworks, strategic reforms, and investment structuring.
According to the Presidency, Tegbe also brings experience relevant to the power sector, having been involved in regulatory and institutional reform engagements with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
The nomination comes as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to overhaul the power sector, improve electricity supply, and attract sustainable investment.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that, if confirmed, Tegbe would apply his experience to drive reforms and deliver improved performance in the electricity sector in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
