Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) reported early Tuesday that the tanker Al Salmi was hit while anchored at a port in the United Arab Emirates, causing damage and a fire on board.

An apparent Iranian attack on a fully loaded Kuwaiti oil tanker at Dubai Port triggered a fire that was later brought under control, authorities said.
Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) reported early Tuesday that the tanker Al Salmi was hit while anchored at a port in the United Arab Emirates, causing damage and a fire on board.
KPC also warned of a possible oil spill in nearby waters, according to the Kuwaiti state news agency KUNA.
Dubai authorities confirmed that a drone strike targeted the tanker overnight, but response teams quickly contained the situation.
They added that no oil spill or injuries were recorded, the Dubai Media Office said.
Multiple loud explosions were heard across Dubai from around 6 or 7pm on Monday until about 1 or 2am Tuesday.
“These attacks seem to be getting closer and louder, and one of them struck the oil tanker off Dubai’s coast,” he said.
“People are clearly on high alert again… You can hear military jets overhead patrolling the skies,” Basravi added.
KPC said efforts are now under way to assess the extent of the damage. According to Lloyd’s List Intelligence, KPC is the parent company of the tanker’s registered owner and commercial operator.
The vessel was carrying about two million barrels of oil from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and was headed for Qingdao, China, based on shipping data.
Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister said Tuesday that Tehran’s attacks in the Gulf are aimed only at US forces, despite recent strikes hitting civilian targets across the region.
