The clash broke out earlier in the day and quickly escalated into a serious street fight that some residents described as a riot

Agege, Lagos – March 16, 2026 — Tension gripped the Agege area of Lagos on Monday following a violent confrontation reportedly involving rival street groups from the Dopemu and Papa communities, leaving at least two individuals feared dead.

According to eyewitness accounts and information circulating within local community networks, the clash broke out earlier in the day and quickly escalated into a serious street fight that some residents described as a riot.

The confrontation allegedly involved youths believed to be associated with rival factions from the Dopemu and Papa areas, communities that have historically experienced tensions linked to territorial disputes and youth gang rivalries.

Preliminary and unverified reports indicate that two individuals lost their lives during the incident. They were identified by locals as Suskid and Ogbona, although their full identities and ages have not yet been officially confirmed.

Residents in the area suggested that the violence may have been triggered by longstanding rivalries between the groups, possibly connected to cult-related affiliations, territorial control, or personal disputes that escalated beyond control.

Agege and nearby communities including Dopemu, Papa Ashafa, Mulero, and Iyana-Ipaja have experienced similar disturbances in the past. Previous incidents in these areas have been linked to clashes between youth gangs and cult groups, sometimes resulting in arrests and security operations by law enforcement agencies such as the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official statement confirming the incident, the reported fatalities, or the circumstances surrounding the clash. Likewise, major national media outlets are yet to publish detailed reports on the event.

Most of the information currently available is being shared through social media platforms and local WhatsApp groups, and authorities have yet to verify these claims.

Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid areas where tensions remain high, and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.

In past situations of this nature, security operatives have typically been deployed to restore order and prevent further violence.

The reported incident once again raises concerns about the persistent challenges of youth violence, cult-related activities, and social tensions in densely populated parts of Lagos. Community leaders and stakeholders have repeatedly called for stronger security measures and youth empowerment initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of such conflicts.
