Suspected terrorists have abducted two traditional chiefs in Ihale-Bunu, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, raising fears over the worsening security situation in the state.
The victims have been identified as Chief Samuel Fagbemi and Chief Zacheus Sunday Fagbemi, the latter a member of the Kogi State Vigilante Service, according to Newsmen.
The abduction occurred Wednesday afternoon when heavily armed assailants, riding more than 20 motorcycles, stormed Ihale-Bunu.
Both chiefs are well-known figures in the community.
As of now, it remains unclear whether the abductors have contacted the victims’ families or issued any ransom demands.
The Kogi State Government and Police Command have yet to release official statements regarding the incident.
This abduction follows a recent case in the area where terrorists released the final batch of six abductees from Aiyetoro Kiri community in Bunu land.
According to the Aiyetoro Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA), the release marked the end of a long and traumatic ordeal for the victims, their families, and the community.
The Aiyetoro Kiri abductees, members of First ECWA Aiyetoro Kiri, were kidnapped during an attack on December 14, 2025. Their release came in phases: the first seven on January 1, 2026, three more on January 12, fourteen the following day, and the final six in the latest development.
AKBDA noted that securing the freedom of all the abducted individuals required “enormous resources,” including financial contributions from families, community members, and sympathizers, alongside sustained dialogue under difficult conditions.
