The Kebbi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools due to heightened kidnapping threats.

This decision follows recent mass abductions in the state, including the kidnapping of 24 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, on November 17, 2025, and 303 schoolchildren and 12 teachers from St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Niger State on November 21.

The directive, issued by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, instructs all basic and secondary schools to suspend academic activities until further notice.

This move aims to protect students and ensure their safety amidst ongoing security concerns.

The governments of Kebbi and Plateau States in Nigeria have announced the closure of schools due to security concerns.

Kebbi State directed all schools to inform parents and guardians about the closure, apologizing for any inconvenience caused and hoping for a swift return of peace.

Plateau State explained that the closure is a safety measure following kidnappings in neighboring states, with different closure dates for different school types.

He said operations were now being intensified in the identified area, with coordinated efforts underway to ensure the girls’ safe return. Matawalle assured the public that the government was treating the situation with utmost urgency.

In Nasarawa State, the government reaffirmed its commitment to take firm action against anyone found spreading false or unverified information capable of disrupting the relative peace across the state’s 13 local government areas.

This was contained in a statement signed by Ibrahim Addra, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Sule.

According to the statement, the warning followed a completely false report alleging the kidnapping of pupils of St Peter’s Quality Foundation Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area.

“Reports from local authorities, the principal of the purported school and community members indicated no such incident occurred in the area,” the statement said.

“The military leadership is aware of Nigerians’ worries about the recent rise in insecurity in some parts of the North. They want to assure everyone that the Nigerian Armed Forces are still dedicated to bringing back peace and stability to all the affected areas.”
