A hotel receptionist identified as Yemi has been strangled to death by yet-to-be-identified assailants while on duty in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The attack reportedly happened in the early hours of Sunday after the intruder gained access to the hotel and murdered the young woman inside the facility.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident on Wednesday, noting that the case was first reported on Sunday by the hotel manager.

The command classified the killing as culpable homicide and said detectives from the A Division were immediately deployed to the scene after the distress call.

According to the police, the victim was discovered with a white cloth believed to have been used to suffocate her.

The hotel manager, Mr Akin, told PUNCH Metro that he woke up to multiple missed calls from the hotel’s official line, and when he tried returning the calls, an unknown man answered and warned him not to call again.

He said he rushed to the hotel and met Yemi lying dead on the floor before alerting the police.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the killing and directed operatives to track down those responsible.

The command said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrators and assured that justice will be pursued to the fullest extent.
