Ukrainian authorities reported Friday that a Russian overnight attack, focused mainly on the capital Kyiv, resulted in four deaths and damage to buildings throughout the city.

Russia, which began its full‑scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, has recently stepped up strikes on infrastructure—especially Ukrainian energy facilities, rail networks, and residential zones.

President Volodymyr Zelensky described the assault as “a deliberately calculated attack aimed at causing maximum harm to people and civilian infrastructure,” noting that it killed four people and injured dozens, including a pregnant woman.

Zelensky said Russia fired about 430 drones and 18 missiles during the attack. AFP journalists in Kyiv reported seeing tracer bullets used against drones and several anti‑missile systems activated.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration, wrote on social media, “There are a lot of damaged high‑rise buildings throughout Kyiv, almost in every district.”

Ukrainian emergency services rescued dozens of people from fires and destruction, and police noted that 30 residential buildings in nine districts were damaged. Mayor Vitaly Klitschko added that parts of the Desnyansky and Podil districts were temporarily without heat, but the emergency outages caused by the attack were fixed by morning.

City officials also said transport was partially blocked, with buses and trams delayed.

On the same day, G7 foreign ministers demanded an immediate cease‑fire in Ukraine and reaffirmed “unwavering” support for the country’s territorial integrity. The European Commission is also examining the possibility of using a portion of Russia’s frozen assets to give Kyiv a loan for budget and military assistance over the next two years. Yet, after almost four years of war, both sides remain deeply entrenched.

Moscow has rejected cease‑fire appeals and dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempts to revive the stalled peace talks.

Russian troops have been advancing slowly through eastern Ukraine, aiming to seize control of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Experts warn that Russia’s recent attacks on energy infrastructure leave Ukraine vulnerable to heating shortages as winter approaches.

In response, Ukraine has intensified strikes on Russian infrastructure and tried to hit targets farther behind the front line. Overnight, Russian forces shot down over 200 Ukrainian drones, according to Moscow’s defence ministry.
