The body of late Mrs Julia Olubusayo Akintoye, wife of a Yoruba leader, Prof Banji Akintoye has been laid to rest in Ekiti State on Friday.
A large crowd of mourners gathered at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel, Okesha Ado Ekiti for the funeral service, paying their last respects to a woman whose impact spanned not only to the state, but Nigeria at large.
The funeral service had numerous dignitaries in attendance, including the State Governor, Mr Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, the State Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, who was represented by the lawmaker representing Ado Constituency 1, Hon. Ayo Adegbite.
Others in attendance were traditional rulers, former Social Democratic Party (SDP) Presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, Chief Jibade Oyekan, former state Deputy speaker, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu, amongst others lawmaker in the state.
Prof. Banji Akintoye, children, family and friends who came from far and near were also present.
The Cathedral Church Bishop said the late Mrs Akintoye was a devoted Christian who worshipped God until the last day of her life and commended the state Governor and other dignitaries in attendance for identifying with the deceased.
Koikimedia report that after the service, a private burial was held in the state, where family and close friends gathered for a final farewell.
The reception service, held at AB event center, was a grand affair with guests from various backgrounds, including people from the diaspora, Royal Fathers, and notable personalities like former Ekiti Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu.
The event featured good music and food, providing a fitting tribute to the late Mrs. Akintoye’s memory.
