Heartfelt Tribute

The late Mrs. Julia Olubusayo Akintoye, wife of renowned Yoruba leader Prof. Banji Akintoye, was remembered in glowing tributes as dignitaries, family members, and well-wishers gathered to honor her life and legacy.

Mrs. Akintoye, who passed away on December 25, 2024, at the age of 88, was celebrated for her unwavering commitment to family, faith, and service to humanity. The Christian Wake-Keeping Ceremony, held at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel, Okesha Ado Ekiti, was a solemn yet uplifting event attended by loved ones and admirers.

Prof. Adelabu: “A Woman of Faith and Virtue”

Among the dignitaries who paid tribute was Professor Modupe Adelabu, former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State. She described Mrs. Akintoye as a mentor, mother, and a beacon of faith whose life was dedicated to serving God and uplifting others.

“We are here to celebrate a life well spent. She was God-fearing, kind, and second to none among women. I believe she is now resting with the Lord,” Prof. Adelabu stated.

Cleric’s Message: “A Life Rooted in God”

Delivering a brief sermon, Ven. Dr. Pastor S.O Olajobi, the Cathedral Bishop, highlighted Mrs. Akintoye’s passion for God and her commitment to righteous living. He urged attendees to always prepare for life’s inevitable end, reminding them that death is a journey all must take.

Family Remembers a Loving and Selfless Mother

For her children and extended family, Mrs. Akintoye was more than a mother—she was a pillar of strength, love, and support.

Her son, Ademola Akintoye, described her as the true definition of motherhood, noting her selflessness and deep concern for others.

“My mother was God-fearing and always cared for everyone. She and my father were like twins—inseparable. She took everyone as one, ensuring that no one around her was left behind,” Ademola shared.

Also speaking, Kolade Akintoye, a brother to Prof. Banji Akintoye, recalled how she treated him like her own son, ensuring he was always well cared for.

“She was a good woman who looked after me from a young age, always making sure I was well-dressed and cared for. May her soul rest in peace,” Kolade said.

Chief Modupe Lawal: “A Woman Worthy of Emulation”

The Iya Ewe of Egba Kingdom, Chief Modupe Lawal, also extolled Mrs. Akintoye’s virtues, emphasizing her generosity and love for humanity.

“She was a well-dressed, kind-hearted woman who genuinely cared for people. She uplifted the poor and changed many lives. The testimonies about her kindness are countless. She is a woman every woman should emulate,” Chief Lawal remarked.

She also called on women to be supportive partners to their husbands and play active roles in their families and communities.

“Behind every successful man is a strong woman. Mrs. Akintoye was that woman. She stood by her husband, supported him, and raised their children with strong values. We should all learn from her example,” she advised.
