Kwankwaso spoke during a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, addressing the current political realignments.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), has said he will only consider aligning with a political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if he is offered the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.
Kwankwaso spoke during a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, addressing the current political realignments.
“At the national level, we are seeking a party to align with. But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot,” he stated.
The remark comes amid speculation that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf might leave the NNPP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), a notion Kwankwaso dismissed as unrealistic. “That is nothing but a dream,” he said.
The former Kano State governor also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s approach to politics, noting that numerical strength in a party does not guarantee electoral victory.
He stressed that credibility, popular support, and performance are the true measures of success at the polls.
