Lagos – A young man identified as Felix has reportedly died after he was allegedly brutally beaten by a group of at least six men in Lagos State.

Felix, who died on Sunday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), was reportedly beaten with sticks and stones by a group led by one Aíyenomuro Mobolaji, the son of a Chief Superintendent of Police in the state.

Mobolaji, popularly known as ‘Spider’ and his squad allegedly beat Felix because the latter’s family had a quarrel with their neighbour, whose daughter is a friend of Spider.

Felix’s father said his son died as a result of the injuries he sustained from the beating Spider and his gang allegedly gave him, adding that it was confirmed by the doctors who attended to him before his death.

“It is not a question of guessing. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent treatment for a day. The doctor later found out that this was not a problem he could solve and said he should be taken to a specialist hospital for a proper treatment,” he told investigative news outlet, Sahara Reporters.

“He now referred us to Alimosho General Hospital, Igando. On reaching there, they said we should go to Ikeja.

“On Saturday morning, he was still breathing. But by the time we got to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, we found out that he was no longer breathing.”

Felix’s mother explained that the dispute began when their neighbour’s daughter intentionally poured water into their shared passage, seemingly to provoke them.

She said the issue happened last Thursday and all the parties involved thought it had been resolved. The mother of the deceased, however, regretted that Felix was attacked by a group of thugs led by Spider the following day.

“The whole matter started when my neighbour’s daughter poured water on the passage. What effrontery does she have to pour water on the passage? She just came down from upstairs and poured the water there,” she said.

“The mother is not the type that would allow you to solve the matter amicably. She is not the type. This was the reason I brought the idea that we should take it to the ‘Baale’ (Traditional ruler lower in rank to a king). The idea was that if they wrote an undertaking, the thing would not repeat itself again.”

The sister of the deceased told the New York-based news outlet that her brother was brutally attacked with sticks, stones, and other weapons, which left him unconscious and ultimately resulted in his tragic death.
