Africa must control its destiny. We are blessed with resources; what we lack is accountable and visionary leadership. Captain Traoré is a rare example of both,” the statement declared.

Abeokuta, Nigeria – A wave of solidarity swept through the ancient city of Abeokuta as supporters of the Yoruba Nation staged a peaceful protest, lending their voices to back Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the young and revolutionary President of Burkina Faso. Protesters, armed with placards bearing messages such as “Leave Captain Traoré Alone,” “United We Stand,” “Yoruba Nation Supports Captain Traoré,” “Now Is Our Redemption,” and “Africa Must Rise,” sent a strong message: the winds of change are blowing across the continent, and Traoré is at the center of it.
The demonstration, which drew attention from local and international observers, is one of many coordinated efforts across the globe by Yoruba Nation advocates who are increasingly vocal in their support for African self-determination and liberation from neocolonial influence.
In a formal statement issued by Chief Omodunni Ayorinde, Chairman of the Yoruba Nation Global Council, and Mr. Banjo Adewale, Secretary, the group hailed Captain Traoré as “a beacon of African sovereignty, anti-imperialism, and continental unity.”
The Yoruba Nation emphasized that the continent is at a crucial turning point, and leaders like Traoré must be protected, supported, and emulated. They described him as a “symbol of resistance and hope” who is igniting a renewed call for African pride, self-governance, and regional collaboration.
“We have been observing the transformative steps he is taking in Burkina Faso. His courage and clarity of purpose represent the kind of leadership Africa desperately needs,” the statement read.
“We don’t just see him as a political leader. He is a voice for the voiceless and a defender of African dignity. At a time when many are beholden to foreign interests, Traoré is choosing his people first,” they added.
As global aid shrinks and geopolitical instability grows, the Yoruba Nation urged African nations to look inward and reimagine a future grounded in self-reliance, responsible leadership, and shared prosperity. They specifically pointed to Burkina Faso’s focus on infrastructure expansion, food sovereignty, and industrial development under Traoré’s leadership.
Initiatives such as the Faso Mebo program and the drive to improve road networks and economic independence were highlighted as practical, people-centered policies that other African countries should adopt.
“Africa must control its destiny. We are blessed with resources; what we lack is accountable and visionary leadership. Captain Traoré is a rare example of both,” the statement declared.
The Yoruba Nation called on African leaders, civil society, and the diaspora to rally behind Captain Traoré’s mission, emphasizing that unity among African nations is the surest path to breaking free from decades of dependency and disempowerment.
As chants of “Now is our redemption” echoed through the streets of Abeokuta, it was clear that the message had been sent a new generation of Africans is rising, and they are ready to defend their own.
