Women Allegedly Use Steroids to Simulate Pregnancy, Says Former NAPTIP DG

Former Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Julie Okah-Donli, has alleged that some women use steroids to create the appearance of pregnancy and later obtain babies to convince their husbands that they have given birth.

Speaking on the Kaa Truths Podcast, Okah-Donli claimed that certain women are injected with steroids that cause weight gain and abdominal enlargement, making them appear pregnant. She also alleged that some mimic pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness, vomiting, and fatigue to maintain the deception.

According to her, the alleged scheme often involves arranging for the baby to appear after the husband has travelled or is temporarily away from home.

She further claimed that some women even undergo procedures that leave surgical scars to support claims of having delivered by caesarean section.
Okah-Donli linked the alleged practice to cases where paternity tests reveal that children are not biologically related to their presumed fathers.

She argued that maternity tests should also be conducted in such cases to determine whether the woman actually gave birth to the child.

The former NAPTIP boss said maternity testing could help investigators uncover possible cases of baby trafficking and identify the true origin of children obtained through such schemes.

She also alleged that some women claim to have delivered twins, triplets, or quadruplets because it makes the deception easier to sustain.

Okah-Donli, who led NAPTIP from 2017, did not provide specific evidence to support the allegations during the interview, and the claims remain unverified.
