Wike’s Aide Slams Igbo Traders Over Protest Against Chinese Businesses In Lagos

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has criticised Igbo traders protesting against the involvement of Chinese nationals in retail trading at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex.

Olayinka reacted in a post on X following the protest by traders who accused Chinese businesses of selling directly to consumers at cheaper prices, thereby putting pressure on Nigerian retailers.

The traders had demanded that Chinese nationals stop retail trading in the market, arguing that their activities were affecting local businesses.

Reacting to the protest, Olayinka questioned the traders’ demand for Chinese nationals to leave the market, noting that both groups had come to Lagos to conduct business.

He wrote, “Una come Lagos come trade. Chinese people too come Lagos come trade. Una dey protest say make Chinese people leave market for una. For una Papa’s land abi?”

“Una head no correct Ori yin o!” he added.
