The spat comes amid ongoing tensions between Wike and Basiru over Rivers State politics

Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken another swipe at the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru, claiming the FCT minister wields more political influence in Osun than the APC chieftain.

The spat comes amid ongoing tensions between Wike and Basiru over Rivers State politics.

On Monday, Wike warned Basiru to stay out of his state affairs.

The clash followed Basiru’s rebuke of a Wike ally who had referred to Siminalayi Fubara who recently defected to APC, as the “so-called Governor of Rivers State.”

Basiru had advised Wike to resign from his ministerial post if he wanted to engage in Rivers politics and cautioned him against creating discord within the APC, stressing that Wike’s support for President Bola Tinubu does not make him a party member.

Responding on Tuesday through social media, Olayinka mocked Basiru’s political record, recalling his failure to secure the APC governorship ticket in Osun and his loss in the 2023 senatorial elections despite serving as Senate spokesperson.

“Someone who wanted the APC governorship ticket but couldn’t get it, na him wan come another State come help another person?” Olayinka wrote.

He also questioned Basiru’s performance as Director General of the APC Campaign Council for Osun State in 2022, when the party lost power. “Did he deliver?” he asked.

Olayinka insisted Wike’s influence in Osun would outshine Basiru’s, claiming, “In Osun State, Wike’s influence will still give President Tinubu more votes than Ajibola Basiru.”

He concluded with a warning, “Wike’s message to Ajibola Basiru is simple. Dey your dey, make I dey my dey. No dey do cho cho cho come Rivers. Politics is local, it is grassroots-based.”
