A US tech firm, Astronomer, has placed its CEO Andy Byron on leave after a video of a man and woman embracing at a Coldplay concert went viral, sparking online rumours of an office affair.
The footage, shown on a giant screen during Coldplay’s performance at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, showed the pair swaying together before quickly ducking out of view when they realised they were on camera.
The moment drew attention after lead singer Chris Martin jokingly said, “Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy.”
The clip spread rapidly online, amassing millions of views on TikTok and other platforms.
Speculation intensified as reports suggested the man was Andy Byron and the woman, Kristin Cabot, Astronomer’s Chief People Officer. Neither has confirmed their identity, and the BBC has not independently verified it.
In response, Astronomer issued a statement confirming a formal investigation and announced that Byron had been placed on leave.
The company said it remains committed to its values and expects its leaders to set a high standard of conduct.
Co-founder Pete DeJoy has stepped in as interim CEO. Astronomer also warned against fake statements circulating online purporting to be from Byron and clarified that no other employees were involved in the video.
