The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening educational and cultural partnerships with Nigerian universities.
Public Affairs Officer at the US Consulate in Lagos, Julie McKay, gave the assurance during a visit to Lead City University (LCU), Ibadan.
McKay, who led a delegation to the institution, said the visit was aimed at deepening academic and cultural exchange programmes.
She highlighted the Fulbright Scholar Programme as a key platform for faculty and student development and commended LCU for hosting Fulbright Scholars twice.
She described the university’s efforts as a commendable investment in academic excellence and global standards.
McKay praised the university’s leadership, infrastructure and strategic goals, adding that she looked forward to stronger collaboration in areas like faculty exchange, joint research, dual-degree initiatives and other academic partnerships, particularly involving Fulbright alumni.
Vice Chancellor of LCU, Prof. Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo, said the institution is focused on producing graduates who are job creators, not job seekers.
He added that LCU remains committed to practical learning, entrepreneurship and global exposure to equip students for today’s realities.
On the Fulbright Programme, Adeyemo recalled the positive impact of Dr. Etim Eneida George’s two visits to the institution and noted that many LCU lecturers were eager to take part in future Fulbright opportunities.
During the visit, McKay also toured the university’s two radio stations—Lead Radio 89.1 FM and LCU Campus Radio—where she granted interviews and interacted with students and staff.
She lauded the stations for their role in public enlightenment and educational development.
The visit marked a significant step towards deeper diplomatic and academic collaboration between the US and Lead City University.
