The US military has struck another suspected drug-smuggling vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing four men, according to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

This latest attack brings the total death toll to 61 people, following earlier strikes that killed 14 individuals in the same region. Hegseth stated that the vessel was operating in international waters and was linked to a designated terrorist organization involved in narcotics trafficking.

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced that four alleged “narco-terrorists” were killed in a military strike on a vessel in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

The vessel was operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) and was involved in illicit narcotics smuggling. Hegseth stated that the strike was conducted in international waters and that intelligence indicated the vessel was transiting a known narco-trafficking route and carrying narcotics.

The identities of the victims haven’t been released, sparking criticism from those who argue these strikes are extrajudicial killings and violate international law.

The UN’s Miroslav Jenca emphasized that efforts to counter transnational organized crime must adhere to international law.

The US military struck another boat in the Pacific, killing four people, while President Trump was wrapping up his three-nation trip in Asia.

Trump met Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, their first summit since 2019, and also visited Malaysia and Japan.

The strike was part of a series of attacks on boats accused of trafficking illegal narcotics. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that US forces carried out three lethal strikes against boats in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing 14 people and leaving one survivor.

Hegseth posted on social media, “the Department has spent over TWO DECADES defending other homelands. Now, we’re defending our own.” Since September 2, the US military has carried out at least 14 strikes targeting about 15 vessels in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific, killing at least 61 people.

The US has bolstered its military presence in the Caribbean, deploying the Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group to the region. However, the White House has yet to provide evidence to support its claims of targeting drug traffickers .
