The UK government has published an updated list of unclaimed estates, including those of 58 Nigerians who died without known heirs.

The list, dated 24 March 2025, contains 5,806 names under the “Bona Vacantia” category, which refers to properties left behind by individuals who passed away intestate (without a will) and without legally recognised next of kin.

Under UK law, estates of deceased persons can be claimed by spouses, children, siblings, nieces, nephews, and other close relatives.

If no eligible claimant comes forward within 30 years, the estate becomes permanent Crown property.

The UK Treasury Solicitor’s Department has urged potential heirs to submit claims with supporting legal documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, and other proofs of relation.

The list includes details of the deceased, including their marital status and place of death.
