Two young men have drowned in a waterlogged ditch along Ring Road, opposite Dorayi Babba, in Kano, while reportedly chasing a debtor.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the deaths of Saifullahi Muhammad, 27, and Halifa Abdullahi, 29, both residents of Gwammaja quarters.
According to a statement by the Fire Service Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incident was reported to their control room at about 9:36 a.m. by one Garba Sani.
“Our rescue team from the headquarters responded immediately and retrieved both men from the ditch, unconscious. They were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where doctors later confirmed them dead.
“The remains of the victims were handed over to Inspector Halifa Muhammad of Kuntau Police Division for further investigation.”
In a separate incident, the Fire Service responded to a distress call at 6:01 a.m. concerning two well-drainers who were trapped inside a well in Danmaliki village near Chalawa Filling Station. The call was made by a staff member, SFS Usman Aminu.
“The victims, who were working inside the well, were overcome by heat and lack of oxygen and became trapped. Fortunately, the rescue team was able to bring them out alive.”
“They were successfully rescued, conscious and were later confirmed to be in stable condition,” he said.
Saminu explained that the rescued victims were handed over to the Ward Head of Danmaliki, Alhaji Ali Alkasim.
The Fire Service advised residents to be cautious around open water bodies and wells, especially during the rainy season, and to report emergencies promptly to avoid loss of lives.
