England manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Declan Rice is fit to start Wednesday’s 2026 World Cup semi-final against defending champions Argentina after recovering from illness.
Rice was substituted at half-time during England’s quarter-final victory over Norway, but Tuchel said the midfielder has returned to full fitness ahead of the crucial match in Atlanta.
“Everyone is fit to start and everyone was in training except Jarell Quansah, who is suspended, and Jordan Henderson,” Tuchel said.
Henderson will miss the encounter after suffering a broken arm following England’s last-16 win over co-hosts Mexico.
Tuchel described the clash with Argentina as one of football’s biggest rivalries, predicting an intense and emotional battle between two historic football nations.
“We expect an intense match with a lot of momentum swings,” the England coach said.
England secured their semi-final place after defeating Norway, while Argentina advanced to the last four as they continue their bid to retain the World Cup title.
