U.S. President Donald Trump promised to tackle the Sudan conflict after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman apparently asked him to. On Wednesday, Trump declared his intent to intervene twice: first at the Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, DC, and then again on his online platform, Truth Social.
Arab leaders from around the world, especially the highly respected Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, who has just left the United States, asked me to use the power and influence of the presidency to immediately stop what is happening in Sudan,” Trump wrote.
“Sudan is considered a great civilization and culture, but unfortunately it has gone bad, though it can be fixed with cooperation and coordination among countries.”
At the investment forum, Trump said the crown prince personally appealed to him for help. “He mentioned Sudan yesterday and said, ‘Sir, you talk about many wars, but there’s a place on Earth called Sudan, and what’s happening there is horrible,’” Trump quoted him as saying.
The U.S. president added that his administration had “already started working” on the issue within half an hour of the crown prince’s request.
Trump had hosted Prince Mohammed, commonly known as MBS, in Washington, D.C., this week for his first official visit.
Regarding Sudan, Trump pointed out the severe humanitarian crisis facing civilians trapped in the fighting, noting, “Food, doctors, and everything else are desperately needed,” in a Wednesday post.
