US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that American forces had carried out lethal strikes against Islamic State militants in Northwestern Nigeria, warning that further attacks would follow if the killing of Christians continued.

Trump made the disclosure on his Truth Social platform, saying the operation was carried out under his direction by the Department of War.

“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians,” he wrote.

He added that the Department of War executed “numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing.”

The president reiterated that radical Islamic terrorism would not be allowed to prosper under his leadership, ending his post with: “May God bless our military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”

Last month, Trump had warned that he would cut off US aid to Nigeria and act militarily “guns-a-blazing” if the government failed to curb attacks by Islamic extremists.

On November 1, he said he had instructed the War Department to “prepare for possible action” against “terrorist thugs” in Nigeria.

Since taking office in January, Trump has also conducted military strikes in Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, the Caribbean Sea, and the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
